Lachrica Jefferson, 22, was found January 30, 1988, in an alley in the 2000 block of West 102nd Street in Lennox. Cause of death: two shots to the chest. A mattress covered her fully clothed body and a napkin had been placed over her face with the word “AIDS” written on it.

Exactly what I was wondering. This and the male victim are the two that stand out and will probably lead to the sleepers capture.
If she did in fact have AIDS then that means the sleeper knew her either personally or through friends post mortem or somehow had access to medical records.

I was wondering the same thing myself. Or, what if he was trying to rape her and she told him that she had AIDS just to try to keep him from raping her?

Autopsy showed she didnt have aids. My family has attempted to help, but have been ignored. I called to have a detectives call and talk to my mom. She and a few friends was there the nite my aunt disappeard. They never talk about it because they have been ignored

She was a very sweet lady. Last time I remeber seeing her it was on my lil sisters 4th B-day. I was 7 or 8.
She has 1 sister, she grew up with, and a mother that was murdered herself about 2 years ago(my grandma). She had me a 3 nephews(me), and a niece., She had more family on her father side but lost touch with them over the years. She had a home, she was not homeless just had a Crack addiction like many others during that time. It was an epidemic. She was not a F/T prostitue, if its such a thing she just wantted to support her habit. She tried to get her life together, but hanging around the wrong crowd put her back to her addiction. Very bright, Beautiful young lady. The photo up of her does no justice. Very loving person that did not deserve what happen to her. Hurts knowing my Grandma, was murdered and 1 of the 2 daughters she had was dealt the same faith. My grandma killer was found, they will both be able to Rest in peace once this guy is captured. My prayers go out to the families of the other victims, and with Gods will this guy will be brought to justice..

Also, she was not not a prostitue. Out of respects of the family, and for my mom can u remove that.. She denies that 100%

Tray, can you get access to the medical reports denying that she had AIDs? I don’t know that it would be of direct value to the investigation but it would certainly help in at least a few ways. Not the least of which closing of certain avenues of speculation regarding the association the victim may or may not have had to her killer.
Also, can you show possible records confirming or denying prostitution charges in a criminal history? You said ‘if it was, she wanted to support her habit.’
Regardless of the reason she had for doing it, if she did it was still prostitution.
As long as we have an actual relative of the victim however (presuming you aren’t just someone yanking our chains, which this is the internet, you never know) if you can provide more in depth information it can only benefit the investigation into the Grim Sleeper as the more we know the more we might be able to figure out her movements prior to the murder, and possible associations with the other murders.
So, if you have any information not mentioned please tell us and if possible provide evidence of it.

Tray, please take a few moments and send this information to councilman Bernard Parks, maybe the old fashioned way, a handwritten letter. I am pretty sure he will try to follow up on why potential witnesses are being ignored. Send a copy to others including, news agencies, mayor, police chief Bratten and anyone else you can think of. I would not add much more than that there are family members who might have some information that could help in the investigation, short and to the point is what I mean.

Did anyone ever think maybe his vendetta has to do with him possibly contracting aids from a “Strawberry” and he may have it out to kill as many as he can when he can……….cause as I sit here and look at the whole picture why would a many wanna rape a “loose” woman ……..wouldn’t/shouldn’t he be scared to catch a deadly disease…………..which leads me to think he probably has AIDS………….didn’t Jack the Ripper do something similar to this…………..because he contracted a veneral disease……from a prostitute….then set out to kill prostitutes………so maybe just maybe this is the reason he wrote AIDS on the napkin………..wonder how many people in LA know someone who drives a orange Pinto……….these cars are definitely not ur average……………sorry for using the words “Strawberry” and “Loose”………but unfortunely it is what is is………my cousin had a drug problem…….and was killed by the serial killer dude in Kansas City, MO………….sad sad…………I hope and pray our people………all people… could become strong enough to ward themselves of the drug demon….It can and has happened to the best and the worst of people……be support and let them know when they r really truly ready you r there for them……give them all the resources they need to make the change….not money for more drugs………but love, food, shelter, support……they gotta wanna do it and truly be ready and leave that wrong crowd behind…….it is so easy to get re-caught up…….Let Us Pray……….May her Soul Rest in Peace………..RDB

Maybe this man is killing these women because they a)were prostitutes (no offense to family members but you never know who someone is) or b) he thinks they’re prostitues and c) he’s killing them because he slept w/ a prostitute and she gave him HIV/AIDS. Maybe the man was killed because he was a pimp.
Does anyone know if the DNA on this killer is HIV positive? Therein could be a key….

I find it curious that this is the last victim to be described as found “fully clothed” (except for the lack of shoes on one). And the next victim survives. Also, between this victim and the one who survives is a fairly long stretch of time, and then thirteen years goes by without an “on known site” murder. Then, after the killer resumes “on site”, the victims are naked or no statement regarding the state of their dress or undress when found. The earlier victims may have been almost consensual (prostitution included, if so), and then, after the fact, he kills them. Maybe the first victims all knew him–or at least was familiar with who he was. The later victims, after the pause, may be entirely different. Complete strangers, surely. One fourteen year old. That one seems very odd, like the male.

What caliber gun was used in Janecia Peters killing? It seems like he went dormant after the failed killing and when he resurfaced in early 2000 he didn’t have a gun, resorting to strangulation on a weaker and more vulnerable person (14 year old). By reading all the given facts it’s my guess he was recently released from prison (or in and out of prison) keep in mind the 13 year gap. He was not sentenced in L.A. county. He fled the L.A. area (he felt he failed and ‘Jackie’ would identify him) and was probably arrested in another jurisdiction/county for a violent crime (back then in the 80s, there was no DNA database). Upon his release, he had to have paroled to the only place he knew, HOME. Look for continuing parole violations involving drugs and the parolee eventually in and out of prison so much they finally said time served. This guy is a drug addict/ex-drug addict, he is involved in church and uses that clean cut persona to charm his victims, has trouble interacting sexually with women brought on by insecurities and rejection. He is the quite and smooth type. He obviously feels very confertable in the L.A. area, dumping these women within the dark alleys that he so often rode his bike through when he was a child. He isn’t as slick as everyone thinks and does not go on the prowl but acts more on instinct and urge after a drug induced frenzy. He doesn’t crave the attention but is rather annoyed that he’s on the radar. He will and has changed his MO a bit but he will always slip up due to is instinctive impulses (saliva on breast, semen. etc…). I really would like to know ALOT more about Thomas Steele’s murder. I believe that is the link!!!!!

Tray, my prayers go out to you and your family. My cousin, Barbara Ware, was victim number 4. She too had family that loved her and a home but the drug addiction made her choose a different path. My prayers go out to all the victims’ families/friends. I pray they catch this monster soon.

Back in 1988 I was around 16 or 17 yrs.old and my cousin Lachrica was found murdered,I was devastated she was not a prostitute but did have a bad habit with addiction. She did not have AIDS, medical reports confirmed that. back then my family got no help from the police in finding her her killer as a matter as a fact we never heard anything about her being a victim of a serial killer. up until a month ago we never even knew she was still an open case. One day last week iI waswatching the news and to my shocking surprise there she was, her photo in a line up with about 10 others. I pulsed my Tivo and stared for many minutes, it was my cousin whom I’ve missed for over 2 dozen yrs. many thoughts went through my head all this infomation they were finally revealing kind of overwhealmed but my final thought was ‘finally after all these yrs. there’s hope for some justice for my family’. may Lachrica rest in peace. I miss her so much. I remember her as having a cheerful personality and always cracking jokes i can say, she was one of my favorite cousins i looked forward to going over my aunt house cause I knew she would be there, but before I knew it she was gone, Forever that. when my mother received that call that my cousin was found dead that was the first sadest day of my life. Lachrica loved her family to death and we loved her back. I’ll be glad when they find her killer. my heart gos out to the other victims families I could truly say I know the hurt and lost they feel. Me again I stand corrected it was 2 decades not 2 dozen yrs. The point is no matter how many yrs. its been I miss my cousin dearly, I feel like I’ve been robbed. Not only of her but of my Aunty too. She was killed by her husband 2 yrs. ago. She was Lachrica’ mom. He WAS caught and convicted. The justice system is good for something I must say. Justice was served. BUT it still couldn’t and didn’t heal that terrible wound that terrible man left in all our hearts. He was from Texas and also used that name. A family is something that you charish and you just don’t know how much until someones gone from your life and it forever. Never in any of my dreams would I have thought that they would be TAKEN from us in this horrible way. One thing I will say, it’s made me and the women in my family very careful about the men we choose to let in our family and hearts. But can you blame us. Two beautiful women gone forever from our already small family,that we can’t get back and nothing or no-one can ever replace them because they were too unique. no matter how much time gos by, when I think of them I get sad,but then I smile don’t ask me why it was just something about them that will make you do that… I’ll always miss them. May they both be in heaven TOGETHER.

Lachrica didn’t have AIDS. But in the mind of a murderer he could think anything. Anything is a reason if he already has it in his mind to kill someone. There was no sign of sexual assault she was fully clothed when found. they should have took the note and analized it for writing. To compare with other criminals. I’m sure this guy has a record somewhere. possily in the 80’s they didn’t have that kind of technology, but i’m sure they do now. Me myself I wish people would get off this thing about her having AIDS or being a prostitute. I am her cousin and I know she didn’t. So for all that reads this you know now the TRUTH.. But as for him having AIDS who knows. But I think that if his motives was revenge for contracting AIDS from a female then to get even will be to sexual assaut all his victims as well as kill them. Every man loves sex, so why not screw then before killing them.. I don’t think that was the case. the man is just a sick individual whom has a taste for killing. 11 victims shows you that. these victims are just that victims.. they didn’t have to give him reason. How do you give a phyco reason.. tell me that.

After this victim, police finally realize they have a full blown serial killer in their midst. If this one occured before the 911 call incident, he might have been captured.

The killer might mean AIDs in a symbolic way. Maybe the killer thinks young black woman living in that area are a disease. Or he has the disease and he is infecting them then killing them. Either way this person is crazy and dilusional. He has to be from the area in order to be comfortable with killing and dumping the body all in a timely fashion. I pray he is caught soon!

I am sorry for my spelling but I write you from Europe. In my opinion, the killer did not mean AIDS but aids. Might he knew for the addiction. I wonder if other people used drugs in some period of life.
So, he might liked tell how he helps them by “moving” . the messege came after media and all hunt-i can imagine it was whole days on tv. He had a need to tell something.

Considering the way all of the female victims have been murdered, there is no doubt in my mind that TGS views his victims as being “human trash”. If he feels (in his sick and twisted mind)that God has given him a mission to “clean up” the streets then it’s not surprising that he views these women as having AIDS and other STDs but he naturally doesn’t want to get caught. His biggest advantage may well be that (like most serial killers) he acts and looks “normal” and is active in his own church–in fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if his family or others who live with him are clueless about his double life. TGS may have a double personality and probably knows how to act in order to gain his victims’ trust and he obviously has an encyclopedic knowledge of South L.A.’s geography (including the back alleys’ locations). My prayers go out to all of the victims’ family members.
