6: Mary Lowe
Mary Lowe, 26, was found November 1, 1987.
On October 31, 1987, Mary Lowe, 26, told her mother, Betty, she was going to a Halloween party. “I said she was crazy to go out in the rain like that,” recalls Betty. “She kept on walking.” Lowe was found the next morning, in an alley near bushes behind the 8900 block of Western Avenue. According to Betty Lowe, a neighbor saw Mary Lowe get in a car with a young black man driving a rust or orange Ford Pinto.
Cause of death: one shot in the chest.

why don’t the ploice check the DMV records of Pintos registered in the CA….or not resgistered but previously owned by who…there aren’t may people driving pintos anymore shouldn’t be that hard to narrow the findings down to a orange/rust colored Pinto……………there is a Pinto for sale at the Salvation Army near my house I am going to call and see if it is of the same or similar color………………may even go by there if they still have it for sale……………this is a damn lazy azz shame of the justice system…….May their souls rest in peace…….and their killer or killers be bought to justice………….RDB

2nd Mention of an Orange/Rust Pinto. Not familiar with this case but did they do a DMV check on the Pintos in that area?

First off: all of this is my opinion only.
Secondly, not enough information to give positive information on any of these, especially the last 3 since the M.O. is simply too dissimilar to the previous murders as well as the time lapse.
Next: The 14 year gap would not be due to incarceration or we would have a hit on the DNA. The only guess, and it would have to be, is that he found satisfaction in some other way. The stressor could have been a failed relationship or possibly a death of someone that he was in a relationship with. Without more information, finding what caused the change would be tough.
If the M.O. changed, but the murders stopped, I would say that it is possible that he moved out of state, at which time I would suggest that there may be other murders that are yet to be linked as he evolved.
So few serial murderers have been african american that statistics would have to be placed mostly upon the fact he is a male that, evidence would suggest was more than likely impovrished.
Victim 3: Probably wrong place wrong time and not linked to anything. Unlike most the victims, besides the fact he is the only male, he was shot from behind. Other than the bullet, nothing else is similar.
The women were shot in the chest. I would also guess to say that the first strangulation/blunt force trauma was due to the fact that she fought back, but this would be a guess without a medial review. The subject went for over a year without killing again. Either the DNA tests were from a rape kit, which is unlikely with what little information is here on this site, or it was from her fingernails etc as she tried to fight back. I am assuming that rattled him and he stopped for a time.
This would also explain the fact that he was still unsure of himself on Victim #7 as it was the first one to be shot two times. The chance of being sighted after a 2nd shot, just as the chance of getting caught with victim # 5, probably caused him to pause. This also would explain #8, the one that lived.
Again, either he fled and we are looking at only the victims that were in that area and not the ones that could be elsewhere, or he went into hiding.
The M.O. would suggest that either this is a different killer, or his M.O. has evolved. If he evolved, then we would have to assume he got comfortable with some other method, which suggest more murders than this.

What caliber gun was used in Janecia Peters killing? It seems like he went dormant after the failed killing and when he resurfaced in early 2000 he didn’t have a gun, resorting to strangulation on a weaker and more vulnerable person (14 year old). By reading all the given facts it’s my guess he was recently released from prison (or in and out of prison) keep in mind the 13 year gap. He was not sentenced in L.A. county. He fled the L.A. area (he felt he failed and ‘Jackie’ would identify him) and was probably arrested in another jurisdiction/county for a violent crime (back then in the 80s, there was no DNA database). Upon his release, he had to have paroled to the only place he knew, HOME. Look for continuing parole violations involving drugs and the parolee eventually in and out of prison so much they finally said time served. This guy is a drug addict/ex-drug addict, he is involved in church and uses that clean cut persona to charm his victims, has trouble interacting sexually with women brought on by insecurities and rejection. He is the quite and smooth type. He obviously feels very confertable in the L.A. area, dumping these women within the dark alleys that he so often rode his bike through when he was a child. He isn’t as slick as everyone thinks and does not go on the prowl but acts more on instinct and urge after a drug induced frenzy. He doesn’t crave the attention but is rather annoyed that he’s on the radar. He will and has changed his MO a bit but he will always slip up due to is instinctive impulses (saliva on breast, semen. etc…). I really would like to know ALOT more about Thomas Steele’s murder. I believe that is the link!!!!!

Anyone else here think that all of this publicity is being used to “lure” the killer out from his hiding space…make him contact police…make him think about his crimes and revisit the crime scenes…visit the graves of his victims etc.? This is exactly what they did to catch BTK (Dennis Rader).

Killer is working his craft more effectively. I feel this car is no longer or never was avery good lead. 1. The man who picks her up may not be the killer. Halloween night partying. Otherwise very sloppy and not consistent with the first sentence. 2. Many cars look like Pintos, ford maverick, AMC gremlins.
And #10. Yes this most certainly is a lure.

I imagine the police did check out all the orange Pintos in the area — just because it’s not mentioned here doesn’t mean it wasn’t done — and I imagine they found thousands of them. Hard as it is to believe today, that was a very popular car and color.
