Could the site administrator clear something up? Some users have commented that the GS “let the surviving victim go”. As far as I understand he did NOT just “let her go” but pushed her out of the car after he raped her and shot her. He clearly assumed she was dead. As described in the March 2009 :.A. Weekly article on the survivor Enietra it was a miracle that she survived: she got up, went to a friend’s house and was taken to the hospital where the doctors removed the bullet from her chest. Superwoman!?

If there was no news story and no police sketch published at the time (late 1988) the GS most likely never knew that she survived. He didn’t take a break after 1988 because he got worried about being caught because the drawing was (as far as I understand) not published.

Or do I have it all wrong??? Guess I have to go back and read the stories again - so many facts to keep track o!

WTXYZ (#38) I have to disagree with you. I don’t think that he knows his victims. Just read the account that the surviving victim gives. She says she was on her way to a party when a the GS (whom she did NOT know) approached her in his car. Nor do I think the victims know of him. I think to all he is a stranger. The survivor said that he was a neat, soft spoken man and she describe his car as “pimped-out,” so maybe because of his appearance and soft spoken demeanor the women don’t initially view him as a threat.

Kate (#17) You were very smart for not giving out your number and I’m glad that you are aware of the GS. The LADP has produced an aged sketch composite and there is also one posted on this website. Did the guy you encountered match any of the composites or the description of the GS (5′8-5′10 160lbs, etc)?

Justin (#26) Chester Turner didn’t “work” the Watts area. I’m very familiar with the LA area and between Slauson and 120th street is still considered LA. The so called “Figueroa Corridor” is an infamous location in South Los Angeles. It is known for prostitution. So the GS and Chester Turner were generally “working” the South Los Angeles area. Here’s a very interesting website that actually maps out both http://www.communitywalk.com/map/10147 and it appears that there areas were split down the middle as if they knew not to cross each others territory. I’m not saying that they had a working agreement or anything I’m just saying it’s fascinating how things are mapped out.

I definitely think that the GS is someone who is from the South LA area because it seems as if he knows the area well. Especially since he was seen dumping one of the bodies and driving away in a church van. I don’t understand why people are doubting that the 11/12 cases are linked when there is either ballistic or DNA evidence that connects all of them. We can only speculate about who the GS is, but I think he is an everyday person who blends in well with the crowd. The BTK Killer(Dennis Rader) was a boy scout leader, a deacon and a married man with children. He was someone that no one suspected. During his active time he would send letters to the police and newspaper telling about his crimes and that’s how he was eventually caught after 17 years. I wish we knew more about the GS, I wish that church that the van belonged to was still standing. It’s been about 3 years since his last killing and I hope there are NO more to come. As word spreads and people become more aware I think he will be caught. I hope he will be caught.

February 26th, 2010 and the Grim Sleeper still hasn’t been caught. I think that the LAPD should start briefing the public. Obviously keeping the public in the dark for the past 20+ years hasn’t done anything for their case. So they might as well seek out the publics help. Maybe if they did that in the 1980s when the GS was most active the case could’ve have been solved by now. Why is it that the sketch composite wasn’t released then? I’m sure he could’ve have been identified by someone. Why didn’t they further investigate the church congregation? That 911 call was placed around midnight and the caller stated that the dumping of the body happened 30 minutes prior to his call. So, who was driving the van? Had to be someone the congregation was familiar with. I think that because of that the GS slipped through their fingers. If they would have kept the church and it’s members at arms length they could’ve showed them the composite and someone would have recognized him. They had to know him, no one just takes a church van. Here we are 20 some odd years later and the church is no longer there, members can’t be found and we have a 20 year-old sketch composite that no one recognizes.

At this point the GS could be anybody. The BTK Strangler was a boy scout leader, a deacon and a married man with children. The GS doesn’t necessarily have to be someone who keeps to himself. He could’ve been the deacon at the Cosmopolitan Church (the church the van belonged to), he could’ve been the drummer, choir director, who knows. His mom could’ve been an a very involved member who brought him. I really hope this guy is caught in my lifetime. It seems as if he’s going to have to strike again and mess up or either confess on his death bed in order to get caught. I’ve lived in that area and driven down those streets and walked past those alleys. It’s very scary to know that I have lived amongst a serial killer and could’ve have come across him at anytime.

I agree with other posts that say after he let the surviving victim go he decided to calm down for awhile. I highly doubt that he got rid of his gun or ever will because that’s like asking to get caught. He killed his latest victim with that same gun in 2007. I haven’t read any recent updates about him so I suspect the trail is cold again. I just wish the case would have been handled better in the 1st place.

Today serial killer Rodney Alcala was finally convicted - he has spent 30 years locked up at tax payers’ expense. Imagine what the families of the victims have had to go through all those years?! Our legal system sucks. Yes, he was finally convicted, but it took decades.

AND: this psychopath creep was on a cheesy dating game show on 9/13/1978, less than three months after murdering one of his victims! The woman on the dating show chose him! (Bachelor # 1). Oddly enough, she would have been 100 % safe going on this date (did they ever go on a date?) because serial killers never kill people they know.

Kate (#25): According to LAPD detective Dennis Kilcoyne, there are AT LEAST six or seven other murders from the 1980s which remain unsolved to this day that could POSSIBLY have been committed by The Grim Sleeper. I should point out that Chester Turner “worked” the streets of Watts (particularly the so-called “Figueroa Corridor” between Slauson Avenue and 120th Street which is characterized by an overabundance of cheap motels) whereas most of The Grim Sleeper’s victims have been found on residential streets USUALLY between Western and Normandie Avenues. One truly noteworthy exception was victim #4 (Barbara Ware) as her body was found dumped in an alley on East 56th Street VERY FAR AWAY FROM The Grim Sleeper’s usual “dumping ground”. It’s entirely possible that the areas in which TGS and Chester Turner “worked” may have overlapped but no one can say for sure. It’s also noteworthy that at least one detective has said that MOST serial killers invariably fall into one of two categories: Organized OR Disorganized…yet The Grim Sleeper appears to fall into BOTH.

My question? Is there possible other victims? Im researching and I cross reference some of TGS victims and Chester Turner victims and it seems like we are missing information.

Black Woman Stabbed to Death
November 11, 1986
The body of a 35-year-old black woman was found in an industrial area of south Los Angeles early today. The Southside Serial Task Force was called to the scene, but a police spokesman said it was too early to determine whether the woman will be added to the list of 17 murders the team is investigating.

The victim apparently had been stabbed to death, Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Lt. Dan Cooke said. The fully clothed body was found in the 6700 block of McKinley Avenue at 1 a.m. by a security guard making his rounds. The victim’s identity was withheld pending notification of kin.
