found this on the AMW website..thought I would post it here:
The cold case cops thought it was odd that no church leaders came forward to inquire about the van and decided to revisit the theory. The Cosmopolitan Church closed down in 1989. Cops were able to track down the regional bishop of the church -- branches still exist in San Diego, Albuquerque and Texas -- who had since retired and moved to Georgia. The bishop was not in Los Angeles at the time of Barbara Ware’s murder.
Although he had very little information for police, the bishop did tell them about the pastor who was responsible for the van. This pastor passed away in April of 2007, which was approximately 3 months after that last victim, Janecia Peters, was murdered. With this information, cops traveled to Georgia in recent months to exhume the pastor’s body. Cops compared the deceased pastor’s DNA to the killer’s but it was NOT a match.
The cold case team has traveled throughout the country -- New York and Mississippi, so far -- to interview and swab former male parishioners of Cosmopolitan church as they become identified. Cops strongly believe the Grim Sleeper was somehow connected to the Cosmopolitan Church. Police want to hear from the anonymous caller from 1987, anyone who attended the church or knows anything about the former Los Angeles branch.
If you have any information about the unknown male who made the phone call or the Grim Sleeper investigation, please call our hotline at 1-800-CRIME-TV.
...OK...so did the cops show these folks pictures of the sketch of the GS killer made by the surviving victim? and then detail the Orange Pinto with racing stripes and custom white interiors...maybe someone from that church would remember that???
